Winter, No. 2 Line, Pohangina valley

Midwinter3 July this year: midwinter, the evening the camera died. It almost seemed deliberate, as if that item of plastic, metal and glass had gained just enough sentience to understand this was the time of year when staying alive is hardest. Now, little more than a month and a half later, the season feels utterly different. And the camera's resurrected.

Yipee on both counts! This is the first horse picture of yours I can recall. I like it.

I still find it hard to get my head round July being winter for you guys.... Then again, it's not been too summery over here this year! I really like this picture, there's something desolate and spacial about it.. plus it's got horses in, bonus!.. :-D

I'm with watercats - can't quite get my head around it being winter where you are. It's cool, though, just hard to remember:) I am always surprised by the fact that your photos almost always make me think of sound ... I can just about hear and feel the wind sweeping past...

Anne-Marie, until you pointed it out, I hadn't realised I hadn't posted a photo with horses. Actually, I have very few photos of horses — but that can be remedied.

Watercats, thanks, and I'm still trying to figure out why a photo that seems so desolate should nevertheless have a definite appeal. It's curious.

Barbara, I'm really pleased my photos evoke other senses. I think that quality in a subject must be something to which I respond intuitively, and then it becomes the technical matter of making sure it comes through in the photo. I'm pretty sure most of what's going on happens subconsciously, though.
