Pohangina river at Ngamoko hut

Delightful walking on a warm summer's day when it's low; madness in winter when it's icy; lunacy if it's flooded

The Pohangina river below Ngamoko hut. The natural habitat of whio.

Leonie, right now it'll look nothing like that. We've had a lot of rain over the last day or two, and the river's way up. Besides, it'll be icy :^(
Definitely best on a hot summer's day ;^)

Kia ora Pete,
What a great spot. I had a very intense couple of days their on my own, time which still seems vivid and I relish. Whio country indeed! I think Leonie would most definitely find that water a bit bracing currently, not to mention muddy and angry. Not a bad spot though to chuck another log in the wood stove and have a cuppa.
Cheers,
Robb

Kia ora Robb. I'm looking forward to getting back there — soon, I trust.
